How to use a vanilla bean in your recipes?

To use the entire vanilla bean, cut the pod in half lengthwise, then use the back of a knife to scrape out the thousands of brown flecks inside. Add these to your favorite batter or steep the seeds and whole pod in a liquid to infuse it with even more vanilla flavour.

When you use a vanilla bean, you typically split the bean, scrape out the seeds and use both the seeds and the pod for flavoring. The empty pod can also be used to make vanilla sugar or infuse other liquids.
